ombrellae started with a frustration most people quietly share: the way we store our files had been taken away from us. The physical storage we grew up with — USB drives, SD cards, memory sticks — was engineered out of our devices, one by one, replaced by cloud subscriptions we never asked for.
The turning point was a simple calculation: years of cloud storage fees, added up. Over $2,000 spent — for files we already owned, on devices we already paid for. Small monthly charges, barely noticeable at the time. Significant when they compound.
The physical alternative didn't exist — not a good one, anyway. Everything on the market required a slow, unreliable third-party app that broke with every iOS update. Nothing worked the way storage should: natively, instantly, without friction.
So we built it. ombrellae Flash was designed from scratch to work natively with Apple's built-in Files app — no third-party app, no account, no Wi-Fi. Plug it in, open Files, done. ombrellae is the product we wanted to buy, and couldn't find anywhere.
